Tragedy in Orlando
“…(Pulse) a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, that became the scene of the country’s worst mass shooting in recent history.”
Generally, I don’t speak on current events but this one is too close to HOME. June is PRIDE MONTH for the LGBTQIA community. I’m not going to speak for all of us when I say that I don’t wait until June to celebrate my sexuality but instead show it and share it daily because this is MY LIFE. And if the chance presents itself, I’ll celebrate Life with others. However, my heart stopped when I heard of the mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando, Florida over the weekend. People go clubbing expecting to have fun and enjoy themselves, not to run and scream in terror! Once I came out, I was never afraid to express myself but this tragedy does give me pause as not everyone loves all of us in the LGBTQIA community and may demonstrate their feelings violently toward us. I read a story of one of the victims texting his mother in the moments before he was killed. Broke. My. Heart!!! I don’t know what possesses a person to take the life of another and what made that man want to end and harm so many lives?!
Is this planet filled with so much negativity, anger and rage that we can’t spend 24 hours in PEACE?!
My positive thoughts and uplifting prayers go out to all who are personally affected by this tragedy including the victims’ loved ones as well as all of us who sympathize.
